Rhodes is considered to be the windsurfer’s paradise, especially its west coast and Prasonisi. For those who love scuba diving, the island’s seabed is very interesting, with underwater caves, shipwrecks and unique reserves. But even on land, there are interesting activities, such as hiking in the old trails or horse riding on mountains, lakes, even beaches.
- Windsurfing-Kitesurfing. From April to October, strong northwestern winds blow in Rhodes – the so-called “meltemia”, making it ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The most popular centres for these sports are concentrated on the beaches of the west coast, mostly in Ixia and Ialysos, as well as in Prasonisi, at the island’s southernmost part. Amateurs can try the east coast, where winds are much milder.
- Scuba diving. The seabed of Rhodes hides many surprises: caves in Kallithea and Lindos, shipwrecks in Plimmyri and Kamiros, marine reserves. And all that in calm and warm waters. Until recently, scuba diving was allowed only on a few spots, so as to prevent potential cases of antiquities trafficking. Now, those restrictions have been lifted and scuba diving is allowed almost everywhere
